The Number Resource Organization (NRO) welcomes the appointment of Mike Silber as Chief Executive Officer of AFRINIC.
The AFRINIC Board of Directors, with the consent of the Receiver, appointed Mr Silber to the position. He is expected to assume office in January 2027, following completion of the notice period associated with his current employment.
Mr Silber currently serves as Group Executive: Regulatory Affairs at MTN Group, supporting operations serving more than 300 million customers across Africa. He previously served as Group Chief Regulatory Officer at Liquid Intelligent Technologies and Chief Administrative Officer at Africa Data Centres.
Mr Silber brings extensive experience within the Internet governance and telecommunications sectors. He has served on the ICANN Board of Directors and as Vice Chair of the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC). He has also engaged extensively with the International Telecommunication Union, the European Union, the African Union and national regulatory authorities across multiple jurisdictions.
His previous governance roles include service on the boards of the .ZA Domain Name Authority, the Internet Service Providers’ Association of South Africa and other industry bodies. He currently serves as a Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of the Public Interest Registry, as well as a Director of the Tertiary Education and Research Network of South Africa (TENET).
The appointment represents an important step in strengthening AFRINIC’s leadership and supporting continuity as the organisation advances its institutional recovery and strategic priorities.
