The IGF held its 11th annual meeting on the theme, “Enabling Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”, in Guadalajara, Mexico, on 6 to 9 December 2016.
The 2016 IGF focused on a range of sub-themes, including Access & Diversity, Critical Internet Resources, Gender and Youth Issues, Cybersecurity, Human Rights Online, Multistakeholder Cooperation, and Sustainable Development.
The IGF provided a platform for engaged and informed discussions about, including how the Internet can support and help to enable sustainable growth as envisaged by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
More than 2000 delegates from 123 countries participated in approximately 200 sessions at the IGF, with thousands more remote participants actively engaging online.
NRO at the IGF
As the unified voice for the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), the Number Resource Organization (NRO) recognizes the participation of the public and private sectors, as well as all aspects of civil society, as critical to discussions on the future of the Internet.
Over the course of the week, the NRO and RIR staff contributed to many of the workshops and main sessions. These sessions looked at topics including IPv6 adoption, the Internet of things, cybersecurity, and enhanced cooperation.
The NRO booth in the IGF Village was a popular meeting place where staff from all five RIRs were available to answer questions about the NRO and the respective regional Internet communities.
