About the NRO The Number Resource Organization (NRO) is the coordinating mechanism for the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). The RIRs - AfriNIC, APNIC, ARIN, LACNIC and the RIPE NCC - ensure the fair and equitable distribution of Internet number resources (IPv6 and IPv4 addresses and Autonomous System (AS) Numbers) in their respective regions. The NRO exists to protect the unallocated Internet number resource pool, foster open and consensus-based policy development, and provide a single point of contact for communication with the RIRs.

Press Releases
The NRO expects that all IPv4 address space will be allocated within the next two years. Many decision makers don't realise how many devices require IP addresses - mobile phones, laptops, servers, routers, the list goes on. With just over four billion IP addresses, Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) does not provide enough IP addresses for the future. IPv6 is a newer numbering system designed to account for future Internet growth.
Network engineers, Internet-related businesses such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs), industry regulators and governments from all over the world have an interest in how the Internet is run. "Internet governance" or the policies and mechanisms under which the Internet community's many stakeholders make decisions about the development and use of the Internet is constantly evolving. The NRO has participated in Internet governance discussions since the beginning. The NRO has strong links to many key sectors of the Internet community, including network operators, standard bodies, international forums and governments. The NRO and the RIRs have actively participated in Internet governance discussions to ensure the growth, stability and security of the Internet.
