The NRO at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

During WSIS Phase 2 in Tunis 16-18 November 2005, the Number Resource Organization (NRO) will be participating at the Internet Pavilion located on stand 1323 at the ICT4all exhibition.

During the week of the ICT4all exhibition, NRO executives and representatives are keen to meet WSIS participants and exchange knowledge, experience, and views on Internet activities. NRO representatives are happy to schedule meetings with participants to discuss Internet issues in depth.

Through the Internet Pavilion, we hope to work together with WSIS participants to promote a greater understanding of existing Internet governance mechanisms and how these relate to the recommendations of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG) Final Report and wider WSIS principles.

The NRO display in the Internet Pavilion will include:

  • Multimedia presentations on Regional Internet Registries (RIR) history, the NRO, and IP addressing and routing
  • An NRO fact sheet available in 13 languages,
  • Brochures and fact sheets on technical and RIR-specific issues
  • Newsletters, articles, and other documentation

About the Internet Pavilion

The Internet Pavilion is an initiative of a number of the key organisations that are, among many other industry partners, responsible for both day-to-day management and policy development in the Internet sphere. Organisations at the Internet Pavilion will include:

  • Internet Society (ISOC)
  • Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
  • Number Resource Organization (NRO)
  • Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
  • Council of European National Top level Domain Registries (CENTR)
  • London Internet Exchange (LINX)
  • African ISP Association (AfrISPA)

At the Internet Pavilion, co-exhibitors, invited guests, and visitors will work together to reinforce the very important role that the Internet has in promoting important areas such as education, economic development, and knowledge transfer.

The Internet Pavilion aims to facilitate an understanding of why a collaborative and cooperative governance model is essential both to the success of the Internet and the development of the Information Society.

The Internet Pavilion is located on stand 1323. The exhibition will take place 15-19 November at the Kram PalExpo.

About WSIS

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) consists of two phases. The first phase of WSIS was held in Geneva 10-12 December 2003, where Internet governance was one of the major issues to emerge. The second phase will be held in Tunis, 16-18 November 2005.
